Playing with people you know changes the feel of GTA Online. Jobs go faster, races get louder, and even a casual drive through Los Santos turns into something worth remembering. If you are setting up a regular crew night or starting fresh with GTA 5 Accounts, the first thing to check is whether everyone is visible on the same platform's friends service. PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC each use their own network tools, so make sure your friend is online and hasn't set their session to private before trying to connect.

Get the PC version ready

Windows players should sort out the game setup before opening the Online menu. Rockstar added BattlEye support to GTA Online on September 17, 2024, and it needs to be running for online access. If the game says BattlEye is required, close GTA V completely, then launch it again. It is also worth opening Rockstar Games Launcher and checking that BattlEye has not been switched off in the settings. Steam Deck and Linux players may run into current compatibility limits, so Story Mode can still be available even when GTA Online is not.

Find your friend from the pause menu

Once you are loaded into GTA Online, open the pause menu rather than waiting around in the lobby. From there, move across to the Online tab and look for the friends area. You will see players who are active and eligible to join. The usual route is simple:
1. Open the pause menu.
2. Select Online.
3. Open the friends list.
4. Choose the friend you want.
5. Pick the option to join their session.
Give it a moment after confirming. The screen may fade while the game moves your character into their lobby, and a full session can take a little longer.

Use invitations when that is easier

An invite is often the quicker option, especially if your friend is already inside a mission lobby or a closed session. They can send one through the Rockstar Games Social Club interface. On PC, the notification normally appears while you are playing; press Tab to bring up the invite prompt, then press Enter to accept it. Console prompts use the controller button shown on screen. If nothing arrives, ask your friend to send it again after checking their session privacy and network connection.

Meet up without the usual fuss

It helps if everyone finishes loading into freemode before launching a job, since invites can be less reliable during transitions. Keep the game updated, confirm that BattlEye is active on Windows, and make sure your platform friends list is refreshing properly. Players who buy GTA 5 Modded Accounts can still focus on the same basics: join the right session first, meet at a familiar spot, then decide whether the group is doing heists, races, or just causing mayhem around the city.
